Sabanis Winery

REGION
In the heart of the winemaking area of Avlida a privately – owned linear vineyard from selected indigenous and international embraces the ultramodern wine factory of the Sabanis Family. The state-of-the-art winery, is located only 15 km outside the city of Chalkis and very close to Athens, Capital of Greece. Avlida is very well known since the ancient years, because it was the harbor where the Greek forces first gathered in order to sail to Troy.

TERROIR
So much, the ideal land constitution of the territory as well as the excellent climatic conditions absolutely certify the choices of the owners for producing authentic Greek wines of high quality into the exceptional microclimate of the region. The climate in the region is characterized Mediterranean with cold winters and cool summers and dry long autumns. The vineyards of the Estate are semi-mountainous cooled by the South Evvoiko Sea. The privately owned linear vineyard today extends over an area of 400 acres.

WINERY
The exemplary wine production area – specially designed for receiving the grapes straight after the harvest and the smooth (almost without pressure) circulation of must and wine- houses all necessary ultramodern equipment for the production of high-quality wines: pneumatic presses, special tanks for the pre-fermentation maceration (skin contact) of white wines, double-walled stainless steel fermentation tanks for white and red vinification with automated cooling system, the isobaric bottling line. Finally, in the new French oak barrels the wine of long maturing “quietens” patiently. Furthermore, the recently constructed 3500m2 additional building houses the labeling and packaging equipment as well as a state of the art inventory facility, where bottled wines rest in ideal conditions, until they are released to the market. The symbol of hope and the trademark of this family winery is the little Church of Saint Ioannis, which stands gracefully in the entrance of the property and contributes with its presence to the smooth course of each wine producing process.

CERTIFICATES
ISO 22000:2005 as well as the IFC 4 (International Food Certificate) that certify and guarantee that the production procedure at the winery follows all necessary hygiene and security requirements.
